“We are supportive of everybody, regardless of their age, resources and fitness level,” says Gina. “Our class format is designed to offer a range of modifications to empower people at all fitness levels, including those who may be getting back into physical activity, have an injury or are pregnant,” she adds.
On March 2, Gina and Chris opened the door to a well anticipated Barre3 studio in downtown Edmonds. What made them decide to open a business in the area? As Chris explains, “When we moved to Richmond Beach, we felt this was our “forever” home. We felt an immediate connection to this area. Over the years, our family has benefited from the many programs offered in Richmond Beach, and we had a strong sense to give back to our community; we didn’t want to go outside of it to open our studio.”
But, as with any big dream, there is always a fear: Will anyone show up on the opening day? Yet the overwhelming support from the community could not have been more profound. All classes during the opening week were sold out within a day. Gina and Drake had built such a strong community over the last two years despite not having a physical space. “The studio is just icing on the cake,” says Gina. “It is the community, the people that really matter.”
Gina’s passion–fueled by Barre3’s mission–to challenge people’s perception of success in fitness and to give generously is one to be admired. She acknowledges that, as a society, we’ve been made to think that we are not good enough, especially in fitness. The images of the “perfect body” and the “before and after” have created a culture of intimidation. “People say they are too old, not in shape, not flexible or overweight all the time.” Barre program is different—people love coming back because they are having fun. The program is encouraging and accessible to all.
Drakes’ vision of creating “home away from home” for their clients is already starting to manifest itself. “It was important to us that Barre3 was not a sole destination that you drove to, but rather an opportunity to connect with other local businesses as well,” says Chris. The couple’s intention to create a space where people could get an hour for themselves, see their friends and grab a coffee afterwards has finally come to a beautiful fruition.
The Barre3 studio is located on 201 Avenue South, Suite 206, Edmonds, WA 98020. New client specials are available.
